Conway Medical Center can now help more women fight to prevent breast cancer.
Tanger Outlets presented a check for $84,666 to the Conway Medical Center Foundation Tuesday.
The money will be used for the Mammography Initiative. It helps women with payments for mammograms, ultrasounds and clinical breast examinations who couldn't otherwise afford them.
Shawn Dew, Women's Imaging Supervisor at the Conway Medical Center, stressed to NewsChannel 15 how critical this donation is, "Especially in this economy, without that these people would not have a mammogram. They would not put the money for it. They wouldn't go for it and they would just let it go until they found the problem and then it would be way exponentially more money."
Conway Medical Center staff say women should get a mammogram once a year.
Tanger raised the money by selling a special Pink Card that offered discounts at participating Tanger stores.
Tanger also hosted a 5/k Run/Walk at each of the Grand Strand malls.
