California-based Johnny Rockets, an international restaurant chain of classic hamburgers and hand-dipped shakes, will open at 4840 Tanger Outlet Blvd. in North Charleston as soon as July 19. Its all-American look includes tabletop jukeboxes and a wait staff outfitted in 1950s-style service uniforms.
The privately held casual dining company started in 1986 in Los Angeles and now serves 13 million hamburgers each year, according to its website.
The North Charleston store will be the company's fourth in South Carolina. Others are on the Grand Strand and Greenville. The Tanger location marks a return to the Lowcountry for Johnny Rockets: The chain had a location on Market Street in downtown Charleston back in the 1990s.
