Korea Lags Behind China in Global Shipbuilding Orders

Korea took second place behind China in shipbuilding orders in the first half of this year, according to the South Korean Ministry of Knowledge Economy and the Korea Shipbuilders' Association. Korean shipbuilders won a total of 4.62 million compensated gross tons (CGT) in orders between January and June, a 450-percent increase over the same period last year. The value of the orders totaled US$9.1 billion, up 116 percent.
