THE US Coast Guard has issued two urgent safety alerts after finding that a key Carnival Splendor firefighting system failed during its 8 November engine-room blaze.Crew extinguished the blaze using portable firefighting equipment. “But before it was declared completely extinguished, five hours after the fire started, the master made the decision to release CO2 from the fixed firefighting system. It failed to operate,” reported the Coast Guard.
